Het blijft maar niet ophouden. 2024 is jammer genoeg het jaar van lay-offs in de games industrie. Dit keer komt het slechte nieuws van Avalanche Studios, met name bekend door de explosieve Just Cause-games.
Avalance Studios gaat de kantoren in New York en Montreal helaas sluiten. Daarmee wordt 9% van het personeel op straat gezet. Dat komt neer op ongeveer 50 werknemers. Avalanche Stockholm, Liverpool en Malmö blijven operationeel. Avalanche zegt de moeilijke keuze gemaakt te hebben om de toekomst van het bedrijf te kunnen garanderen.
Avalanche Studios bracht laatst Generation Zero uit, een co-op shooter tegen robot Dino’s. Deze game verscheen in het jaar 2019. Het wordt langzaam tijd dat Avalanche Studios een nieuwe game gaat aankondigen. Mogelijk is dit een nieuwe Just Cause-game. Een film gebaseerd op de Just Cause-serie is in productie.

“Since its inception over two decades ago, Avalanche Studios Group has grown to encompass five locations worldwide: Stockholm, New York, Malmö, Liverpool, and Montreal.
Today, we regretfully announce the closure of two of those locations: New York and Montreal. This means we’ll be parting ways with around 50 valued friends and colleagues, which represents roughly nine percent of Avalanchers worldwide.
This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it’s necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company.
Our focus is now on supporting all Avalanchers through this challenging time. We’re grateful for the invaluable contributions of those leaving and remain committed to creating incredible gaming experiences for our players.”
